In this 21st century, youth have been very engaged and addicted to technology and the internet. Due to this, Misinformation, Disinformation and Hate Speech are important issues that need to be addressed.

Yuwalaya as part of Youth Hub Coalition of PLAN International Nepal conducted 4 days of Masters Training of Trainers (MTOT) on Misinformation, Disinformation, and Hate Speech for 28 youth from Makwanpur, Kalikot, Sunsari, Jumla, and Banke districts from 5th January 2022 to 8th January 2022. The program was conducted with technical support from Digital Rights Nepal.

Mr. Santosh Sigdel from Digital Rights Nepal conducting session on misinformation.

The four days program included the topics of “ what is freedom of speech, right to privacy, differences on free speech and hate speech”, what is misinformation, disinformation, misinformation and how we can difference real and fake news”. Though the program was held online, the session was made interactive by having a group discussion on different case studies through breakout rooms in zoom. The participants found the group discussion very effective.

“This program was really wonderful. These sessions on misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech are really necessary for youth. As youth are really active in social media and they share whatever they want to share on social media without knowing its consequences. Through this session, I have learned that I should not share whatever comes to my mind”- Participant from Sunsari

“Through this session, I have realized that I should not share my Facebook password to anyone, not even to my best friend. I also understood which information can be made public and which should be kept private.” – Participant from Hetauda
