
“Rooting for Children” is a project that is being implemented in partnership with Katholische Jungschar (Austria) which aims to empowers children and adolescents to participate in local-level initiatives aimed at promoting three key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) i.e. SDG 2 (No hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). The Project Rooting for Children has focused on the capacity building of both youths and local stakeholders to strengthen existing mechanisms in local-level structures, empowering them to act for SDGs focusing on the proposed goals. The project has developed a good understanding of SDGs among children and in the community people and demonstrated their learning by practicing it (in school and in the community). The goal of the project is to create an enabling environment for young people to meaningfully engage with their local stakeholders to achieve SDGs 2030 in Nepal. The specific objectives of the project are:
- To enhance the knowledge of children and young people on climate change, its impacts on human life, and measures to tackle the negative consequences of climate change
- To increase the engagement of children and youth in initiatives under their leadership to amplify the mitigation approach to climate hazards
- To capacitate educational institutions to take action against climate change under child-led initiatives
