Creating Safe Spaces for Children

The project, Creating Safe Space for Children (CSSC) with DKA Austria aims to strengthen the child protection system in schools to contribute to ending violence against children. This project focuses to end violence against children by strengthening child protection and participation systems in schools and their catchment areas with tools, systems, and capacity building. The project focuses on strengthening the capacity of the teachers, and the local government on child protection, safeguarding, gender-responsive School Improvement Plan (SIP), appreciative inquiry, and school safety plan development. The project also intends to enhance the knowledge of family members on early child marriage, dealing with children/child-friendly behaviors, bullying, and harassment.

The goal of the project is to end violence against children by strengthening child protection and participation systems in schools and their catchment areas with tools, systems, and capacity building.

The specific objectives include:

  • To establish and improve the child protection system in schools for a safer learning environment
  • To build the capacity of teachers to help them support their students and schools
  • To empower children to them exercise their rights to protect themselves from any forms of violence in school.

With the remarkable milestone like 1st Child Assembly in Konjyosom Rural Municipality, the project aims on incorporating the voices and concerns of children into the municipality’s policies, programs and budget. Creating Safe Spaces for Children considers children, youth and teachers as their primary beneficiaries whereas community people and local government as secondary beneficiaries ensuring child protection is a shared agenda. This three yearlong project collaborated 24 schools for its execution i.e. from 8 governmental schools each local government (8 schools at Lalitpur Metropolitan City, 8 schools at Parsagadhi Municipality and 8 schools at Konjyosom Rural Municipality). This schools are core platforms for execution of project activities which includes from child focused programs, child-led initiatives to advocacy efforts.
